The Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM) is issuing this notice to inform Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) providers of an upcoming national procedure code update that will directly affect speech therapy service billing and prior authorization processes. The current procedure code 92507-Treatment of speech, language, voice, communication, and/or auditory processing disorder will be retired effective December 31, 2026.
Beginning January 1, 2027, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will replace 92507 with five new, more specific procedure codes. These new codes are intended to more accurately describe the distinct types of speech-language treatment services provided. Please be advised that CMS has not yet finalized the 2027 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule, which will formally establish the five new replacement procedure codes for 92507. Because the Final Rule is still pending federal approval, CMS has not released the associated 2027 reimbursement rates for the new codes.
Medicaid is aware of this update and is actively preparing internal systems, policy documents, and claims processing logic to ensure the transition can be as smooth as possible.
Medicaid also recognizes that this national coding change will affect:
- Existing approved prior authorizations (PAs) submitted under 92507 that extend beyond December 31, 2026
- Treatment plans previously approved under 92507
We are collaboratively working with Telligen and the Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) to review prior authorization workflows to minimize disruption in therapy services or provider reimbursement. Additional guidance will be issued as soon as PA conversion rules and mapping to the new procedure codes are finalized.
Stay Tuned for Additional Guidance from Medicaid, Telligen and the 3 MCOs. A follow-up communication will be published once final code details are available.
